Water and Color: Contemporary Ink Art Show 水色

Curated by Zhang Zhaohui, the exhibition "Water and Color: Contemporary Ink Art Show" was held in Today Art Museum from 11th to 23rd last month. Participating Artists include: He Jian,Hu Youben,Lei Ziren,Li Geye,Li Huasheng,Li Tingting Lu Jun,Lv Peng,Peng Wei,Wei Ligang,Wei Qingji,Xu Hualing Xu Xianglin,Zhang Yu, and Zhu Wei. 由张朝晖策展的展览《水色》上月11日至23日在今日美术馆举办。参展艺术家包括何剑，胡又笨，雷子人，李戈晔，李华生，李婷婷，陆军，吕鹏，彭薇，魏立刚，魏青吉，徐华翎，徐香林，张羽，朱伟。
"We can say, Zhu Wei is the first artist who brought Chinese traditional meticulous brushwork into Chinese contemporary art. He indulges himself freely in Chinese painting, prints and sculptures. Even fifteen years ago, when many Chinese artists adopted oil painting to their “Political Pop” or “Cynical Realism” works, Zhu had began his exploration on the possibility of using traditional media to express contemporary political life. The representative “Utopia” series was created during that period. Zhu was born in 1960’ in a PLA family in Beijing. His works reflect the artist’s intensive thinking over the topic of humanity in the political torrent. Although these contemporary topics make the appearance of his works far away from the traditional Chinese paintings, they still keep the characteristics and standards, such as the techniques of outlining, coloring and shading. It is the contrast between his traditional artistic language and the contemporary political view that makes his works so attractive and irresistible."---by curator Zhang Zhaohui. “可以说，朱伟是第一位将工笔画手法引进中国当代艺术领域的艺术家。他在水墨、版画、雕塑等领域都有不俗的表现。尤其是在十五年前，当大量的中国新锐艺术家用油画来做“政治波普”和“讽刺现实主义”作品时，他便开始探索传统的工笔画来表现当代中国的政治生活的可能性，完成了有代表性的作品《乌托邦系列》。他的作品反映了他作为六十年代出生于北京的军人家庭背景下成长起来的艺术家对政治激流中的人性的思考。他的作品已经与传统的工笔水墨画产生了巨大的差距，但在设色、勾勒、晕染等技术层面保持了基本的特征。他作品的传统语言与当代政治生活图景之间的反差使作品获得了难以抗拒的吸引力。”---策展人张朝晖

RECOMPOSITIONS group exhibition at Xin Dong Cheng Space for Contemporary Art will show artworks of Arman, Gao Huijun, Gu Wenda, Shao Fan, Shi Jianmin, Xu Bing, Zhan Wang and Zhu Wei, and will explore the artists' quest for new form of contemporary expressions as they are bending and broadening the boundaries between tradition and modernity. 即将在程昕东国际当代艺术空间（I）举办的“再造”展览，通过阿曼、高惠君、古文达、劭帆、师建民、徐冰、展望、朱伟等八位艺术家的作品，呈现他们各自在传统文化基础上的当代性探索。

On October 18th 2008, Zhu Wei's solo exhibition opened at Xin Dong Cheng Space for Contemporary Art. This is his second solo in Beijing. Three paintings and the new sculpture are shown. 朱伟个展于2008年10月18日在程昕东国际艺术空间开幕。这是艺术家在北京举办的第二次个展。此次展览展出了三幅绘画与艺术家的新雕塑。

New Sculptures in New Jersey 新泽西 新雕塑

Since last year, the Laran Bronze, a sculpture foundry in Philadelphia, USA, started to produced two eidtions of Zhu Wei's sculpture "China China", both in aluminum. Laran Bronze is one of the world’s premier foundries for fine art casting. In this summer, the first pairs came out. 自去年开始，美国费城的雕塑工作室Laran Bronze经授权开始制作朱伟的雕塑系列。Laran Bronze是世界知名的艺术品制作工厂，历史悠久。朱伟与之合作的雕塑采用铝金属制作，有红绿两个版本。今夏第一对雕塑正式完成。

The “Beijing-
Athens: Contemporary Art from China” Exhibition at Mykoson, accompanied
by the Greece ambassador, attracted many collectors, journalists and
artists to the magic island beside the Aegean Sea. The local mayor gave
a great hospitality to the Chinese delegation. The exhibition was
solemnly opened in Greek Athens national contemporary art center on May
12, and will last until May 26, 2008. According to the incomplete
statistics, there are more than 1,000 people that have attended this
opening ceremony. Greek foreign minister, minister of labor, minister of
finance, minister of culture, and ambassadors of China and Japan staying
in Greece also attended the opening ceremony. Zhu Wei's artwork Vernal Equinox No.12 is the only ink and wash in this exhibition. 在希腊爱琴海边的Mykonos岛，“北京—雅典，来自中国的当代艺术展”吸引了大量收藏家、媒体和艺术家，并受到当地市长及全体议员的盛情欢迎。在希腊雅典国家当代艺术中心举办的这次展览于当地时间5月12日开幕，将持续展出到2008年5月26日。据不完全统计开幕嘉宾达千余人，希腊外交部长、劳动部长、财政部长、文化部长及中国、日本驻希腊大使均出席了本次开幕式。朱伟的参展作品《开春图十二号》是本次展览中唯一的中国水墨画。

Wei's first solo exhibition in Europe opened on April 25, 2007 at J.
BASTIEN ART Gallery, which is located at Rue de la Madeleine 61 in
Brussels. The exhibition is from April 25 to June 3, 2007. Ten ink
and colour on papers and four prints have been shown. 朱伟在欧洲的首个个展于2007年4月25日在位于布鲁塞尔的J.
BASTIEN ART画廊开幕，展期从4月25日到6月3日。这次展览展出的作品包括10幅水墨和4幅版画。

March 2 to April 15, 2007, Zhu Wei's two ink and colour on papers were
exhibited at the Chinese Contemporary Sotsart in the State Tretyakov
Gallery, Moscow. The exhibition included almost all important Chinese
Contemporary artists, said Cheng Xindong, the curator of the
exhibition. Zhu Wei is the only ink and wash painter being invited
to this exhibition. 2007年3月2日至4月15日，朱伟的两幅水墨作品在俄罗斯特列恰可夫国家美术馆展出。策展人程昕东表示，这次展览几乎包括了所有重要的中国当代艺术家。朱伟是展览受邀的唯一一个水墨画家。 |
